LANSING–State Sen. Dave Robertson, R-Grand Blanc Township, was part of Wednesday’s swearing-in at the state Capitol with Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young, Jr. administering the oath of office.
Robertson was joined on the Senate floor by his wife Teresa and by Maria Carl, widow of the late Sen. Doug Carl.
“As we kick off the new Senate session in an economy that continues to struggle, I am heartened to have Teresa and Maria by my side,” said Robertson. “I’m not sure what I would have done without Teresa’s faithful support.
“And Maria’s late husband, Sen. Doug Carl, was my great political mentor and friend. It is a wonderful privilege to have Maria join us today.”
Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville greeted the new group of legislators. The Senate of the 96th Michigan Legislature is comprised of 26 Republicans and 12 Democrats. State senators are elected to serve a four-year term.
“I am honored to welcome such a distinguished new set of dedicated public servants to the Michigan Senate,” said Richardville, R-Monroe. “Our state continues to face many challenges. I look forward to working together to turn Michigan around for the good of all our residents.”
